Over 10 years ago, I went to Graduate School of East Asian Culture Studies at the University of Washington. I worked as an administrative assistant at the Confucius Institute and assisted the Dean in organizing many Chinese cultural exchange activities at UW. After graduate school, I was fortunate enough to work in a number of bilingual kindergartens in Bellevue. I have worked as a Lead teacher and program lead responsible for the writing Chinese curriculum for young children. Meanwhile, I have earned rich experience of event planning and management. I am very grateful for these opportunities provided by my mentors. However the most valuable thing I have gained from my work is a whole new philosophy.
My peer American teachers and my director, who played a true role model of educators, had a significant impact on reshaping my philosophy of education. I have learnt as teacher, we need to respect each child is a unique individual. Obedient vs disobedient doesn’t mean good vs bad. Children are young and completely depend on us and they deserve great care and attention, respect, trust and positive encouragement to grow and thrive. Learning is anything but perfect; children should discover the world through their own experience by playing, exploring, and making a lot of mistakes .
I embrace all of knowledge I learnt from my co-teachers and director and from every beautiful little angel who called me Jianglaoshi(Teacher Jiang). I feel grateful to have experience being teacher before becoming a mom. Now I want to share this wonderful philosophy with parents like you in this community. Every human being is spending lifetime looking for meaning of life and pursuing their way of ideal life. As teacher and parents, all what we have to do is to love them, respect them and support them unconditionally.
